Summary
Facts On File’s American Biographies series documents the stories of the men and women who have influenced the course of America’s development from colonial times to the present day. Organized alphabetically, each thematic volume contains 250-300 entries on significant Americans whose lives have had a lasting impact on or been representative of American society. Each entry begins with a short description of the person’s importance, the person’s birth date, and a chronological history of his or her life. Profiles also offer a summation of the individual’s importance in the greater historical context and suggestions for further reading. Topical introductions to each volume, a bibliography, two subject indexes, and a general index round out this unique, informative series.
