Summary
Since his rookie season in the NFL, Dan Marino was one of the league's best quarterbacks. Known for his strong arm and quick release, Marino became the first NFL quarterback to pass for more than 5,000 yards in a season. During his 17-year career, Marino led the Dolphins to one Super Bowl appearance, a 38-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and was named to nine Pro Bowls. He holds virtually all of the NFL's career-passing records, including yards (61,361), touchdown passes (420), and most games with 400 or more yards passing (13). Marino has used his sports fame to benefit several philanthropic ventures, including The Dan Marino Foundation, which supports children's charities, and The Dan Marino Center at Miami Children's Hospital, which offers health care to children with chronic medical needs. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
