The Encyclopedia of Adoption, Third Edition provides accessible, up-to-date information in more than 400 concise entries and covers many new developments since publication of the previous edition. These additions include the Adoption and Safe Families Act, a federal law that was created to encourage the adoption of foster children, which has now been fully implemented by all states and has led to a drastic increase in the number of foster children adopted. About the Author(s)
Christine Adamec is the author of more than 20 books and more than 800 features, including many medical articles and reports. She has ghostwritten numerous medical articles and six medical self-help books for physicians on topics such as arthritis, back pain, and migraines. Her books for Facts On File include The Encyclopedia of Child Abuse, Third Edition, The Encyclopedia of Addictions and Addictive Behaviors, and many more. Adamec is a member of the American Medical Writers Association and the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She lives in Florida.
Laurie C. Miller, M.D., is a pediatrician who is the author or coauthor of many medical journal articles on adoption. She is director of the International Adoption Clinic and Post-Adoption Program at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts and is a member of the International Child Health Subcommittee of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her books include The Handbook of International Adoption Medicine: A Guide for Physicians, Parents, and Providers.
