About the Author(s)

Ada P. Kahn, Ph.D., holds a Ph.D. in public health and is the author of The Encyclopedia of Work-Related Illnesses, Injuries and Health Issues, The Encyclopedia of Phobias, Fears and Anxieties, and The Encyclopedia of Mental Health, among others from Facts On File. Several of her Facts On File books have won awards from the American Medical Writers Association and the Illinois Women’s Press Association. Her other books include Empower Yourself and Keeping the Beat: Healthy Aging Through Amateur Chamber Music Playing.

Delbert H. Meyer, M.D., is a member of the voluntary clinical faculty at the University of California at Davis and was a medical adviser for the School of Respiratory Therapy at American River College in Sacramento, CA, for 20 years. He is on staff at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael, CA, and has written extensively for a number of medical journals during his more than 30 years' experience in medicine. Meyer is also the founder and editor of the Medical Tuesday newsletter that is circulated to more than 20,000 physicians and health care executives.
