About the Author(s)

Together, John C. Tibbetts and James M. Welsh have authored The Encyclopedia of Stage Plays Into Film and The Encyclopedia of Filmmakers, both for Facts On File.

John C. Tibbetts is an associate professor of theater and film at the University of Kansas. He is the author of His Majesty, The American and is editor of Introduction to Photoplay and The American Theatrical Film. He has published more than 200 articles on the arts and has worked for CBS Television, the Christian Science Monitor, and The Voice of America as a television and radio broadcaster.

James M. Welsh is a professor of English at Salisbury University, Maryland and the current editor of Literature/Film Quarterly. He is founder and president of the Literature and Film Association and has worked in television. His previous works include a book on the films of Abel Gance and numerous articles for Film Comment and Films in Review.

Foreword author Robert Wise is a celebrated filmmaker and director of such classics as The Andromeda Strain, The Haunting, The Sound of Music and West Side Story.
