Jon Sterngass is the author of First Resorts: Pursuing Pleasure at Saratoga Springs, Newport, and Coney Island (2001). He has written more than forty young adult books, including biographies of José Marti, John Brown, Frederick Douglass, Anne Frank, Geronimo, and Crazy Horse for Chelsea House. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Jon Sterngass has a B.A. in history from Franklin and Marshall College, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in medieval history, and a Ph.D. from City University of New York in nineteenth-century U.S. history. He has lived in Saratoga Springs, New York, for twenty-three years with his wife, Karen Weltman, and sons Eli and Aaron.
